Bond Insurance
Financial guarantee solutions that support contractual, performance, and statutory obligations.
Product Overview
Bond insurance is a type of financial protection that ensures compensation for losses incurred due to a bond issuer's failure to meet its contractual obligations.
It provides a guarantee to the bondholder or beneficiary that they will be paid in case the principal party defaults on their commitments. This can apply to various types of bonds, such as performance bonds, surety bonds, or payment bonds.
For example, in construction projects, a performance bond guarantees that the contractor will fulfill the terms of the contract. If the contractor fails, the bond insurance ensures the project owner receives compensation for any financial loss. Similarly, surety bonds protect against non-performance or non-payment.
Bond insurance serves as a safety net to reduce risks associated with bond transactions, offering financial stability and confidence to stakeholders involved.
Coverage Levels
Custom Bonds Insurance
In Tanzania, a Customs Bond Insurance guarantees compliance with customs and tax regulations. It ensures that importers, exporters, or businesses involved in international trade fulfill obligations to the Tanzania Revenue Authority, including payment of customs duties, taxes, and other legal requirements. If the business defaults, the bond provides financial compensation to the TRA. It is commonly required when importing goods for commercial purposes or regulated commodities such as firearms or food.
Advance Payment Bond
This bond guarantees repayment of advance payments made by a buyer to a supplier or contractor. If the supplier or contractor fails to deliver the agreed goods or services, the bond ensures that the buyer can recover the advance payment. It supports trust and smooth execution in construction, import, and other commercial contracts.
Performance Payment Bond
A Performance Payment Bond ensures that a contractor or service provider completes work according to the contract terms and specifications, while also ensuring payment for materials and labor. If the contractor abandons the project or performs poorly, the bond issuer compensates the project owner for financial losses. It also protects subcontractors, suppliers, and workers from non-payment.
Bid Bonds
A Bid Bond guarantees that a bidder has submitted a serious and legitimate tender and will honor the bid terms if selected. If the winning bidder fails to sign the contract or meet tender conditions, the bond compensates the project owner or tender issuer for losses arising from the default. It is widely used in public procurement, construction, and contract-based industries in Tanzania.
Regional Custom Transit Bonds
Regional Customs Transit Bonds facilitate movement of goods across multiple East African countries under the East African Community Customs Union framework. They guarantee payment of duties, taxes, and government charges when goods move across borders. If goods are diverted, abandoned, or fail to reach the intended destination within the transit period, the bond provides compensation to the relevant authorities, helping reduce revenue loss and simplifying regional trade compliance.
